WDDS is proud to acknowledge the Award Recipients that have received recognition and awards for the following:
Les McKerral Award:
This award is named after Les McKerral, a long-time WDDS Board Member and strong supporter of WDDS for many years. The Board of Directors initiated this award after he passed away, as a means of remembering his many contributions and hard work on the Board. The Les McKerral Award is meant to honour one of this agency’s most dedicated and committed supporters; so consequently, it should reflect his personal commitments as well as the philosophy of this agency. We have many dedicated volunteers, staff, family members, and community friends who have made an impact on the lives of the people supported through WDDS. This award will help us to recognize these wonderful contributors, in a more formal manner.
Dorothy Wright Award:
The Dorothy Wright Award is an annual award that is presented at the WDDS Annual General Meeting. Dorothy was a teacher of students with developmental disabilities who worked at Blossom Park and Hillcrest School. Upon retiring, staff pooled their money together to start a fund for a memorial plaque to be given to a person with developmental disabilities for exceptional effort.
Flowers of Hope Ambassador:
The Flowers of Hope campaign is an annual fundraiser for WDDS. An important part of this campaign is the nomination of a Flowers of Hope Ambassador who will represent WDDS at a variety of social events and functions in the community throughout the year. Another important role of the Ambassador is to be involved in the Flowers of Hope Campaign week in May where they are highlighted in the campaign letter sharing their involvement with WDDS and their community.
