To be considered for a Direct Support Professional position at WDDS you must have:
- Minimum Grade 12 with related experience supporting people with developmental disabilities with diverse needs, which may include, medication administration, assisting with personal care and activities of daily living; and planning activities that reflect individualized interests and inclusion in the community
- Experience utilizing computer software. Knowledge of AIMS would be considered an asset.
- Valid Driver’s License with a current Driver’s Abstract
- Current Police Check including Vulnerable Screening
- Valid CPR Emergency First Aid Certificate
- Flexibility in working hours to accommodate support requirements. This will include working days, afternoons, evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Volunteer
WDDS recognizes and values the significant contributions made by volunteers. Through contact, care and compassion, volunteers can enhance the lives of the people we support in many ways, and we welcome anyone who would like to share their time, talents, and skills.
Volunteers come with different life experiences; including students, retirees, family members, staff, and community individuals who wish to make a difference for others. WDDS’ volunteers are involved in many diverse roles throughout the agency, including sitting on Boards and advisory committees, sharing time with adults and youth living with a developmental disability, being involved in special events, and assisting in fundraising activities.

Student Placement
WDDS welcomes and supports students on placements from various colleges who are enrolled in DSW, SSW, CYW, or PSW programs.
Student placements offer students a unique opportunity to apply their classroom learning in real-life situations under the guidance and supervision of qualified leaders in the developmental sector.
Student placements help students to integrate their theoretical learning into the complexity of workplace practice in a planned, structured, and reflective way.
A student placement helps students to gain a realistic job preview, develop confidence in themselves and their abilities, provide the opportunity to explore and expand their knowledge and also allow students to gain opportunities to develop their processes of reasoning, evaluating, and communicating ideas and information.
